　　Political science is a social science discipline concerned with the study of the state, nation, government, and politics and policies of government. Aristotle defined it as the study of the state.It deals extensively with the theory and practice of politics, and the analysis of political systems, political behavior, and political culture.

　　政治學是一門以研究政治行為、政治體制以及政治相關領域為主的社會科學學科。在西方，政治學在學術領域里的研究也被稱為政治研究、政治科學、或只有政治兩字。政治學意味著在學術上的研究領域，政治研究則代表了更廣泛的研究領域。

　　2.Comparative politics：比較政治學

　　Comparative politics is a field and a method used in political science, characterized by an empirical approach based on the comparative method. In other words comparative politics is the study of the domestic politics, political institutions, and conflicts of countries. It often involves comparisons among countries and through time within single countries, emphasizing key patterns of similarity and difference.

　　比較政治學是政治學的一個分支學科。是利用比較的方法研究政治現象的一門學科，一般分為作為方法論的比較政治學和作為理論知識的比較政治學。亞里士多德的《政治學》可視為比較政治學研究的開創之作。近代的比較政治研究發展于文藝復興和啟蒙運動之后，比如托克維爾的《論美國的民主》和《舊制度與大革命》。以后馬克斯·韋伯、孔德、涂爾干等的社會科學方法對比較政治學之研究有很大影響。但比較政治學作為一門學科之形成，是到了第二次世界大戰以后，代表性的著作有杜瓦杰(Maurice Duverger)的《政黨論》，阿爾蒙德(Gabriel A. Almond)、維巴(Sidney Verba)的《公民文化：五個國家的政治態度和民主制》等。

　　3.Politicization：政治化

　　A politicized issue or hot-button issue is a social, economic, theological, spiritual, scientific or legal issue which has become a political issue, as a result of deliberate action or otherwise, whereby people become politically active over that issue.

　　政治化，是一個人類社會中的多元問題，任何參與者基于人權，能以社會熱門話題及社會問題等作切入點，向管治權力施壓，以取得政府關注及回應。例如政客、政黨等，會利用很多社會、經濟、環境、文化等問題引出相關的政治議題在公開的政治場合(如立法會)討論，并向政府施壓或抗爭，作為爭取選民支持的有效政治本錢。
