The Plan to Raise the Russian Submarine Kursk

Brussels: Three companies have announced a plan to raise the Russian submarine(1) Kursk from the Bering Sea. Two Dutch companies and the Russian builder of the Kursk announced the plan in Brussels. The submarine sank in Arctic waters in August. All 118 crewmembers died. Officials say they expect to begin work in April and finish in August. The Kursk Foundation is raising money for the operation. The co-chairman, former Dutch Defense Minister Whilhelm Van Eikman said the ship’s nuclear reactors【核反應堆】 must be removed. If not, he says, radioactive(2) material could leak(3) from the Kursk over time and get inside fish.
