The United States is to penalize legal immigrants who received public welfare as part of a drive to curb immigration. The new policy, due to come into effect in October, aims to defy permanent residency and citizenship to low-paid immigrants. Pro-immigrant activities say they will fight the move.

There has been turmoil in Argentina's financial markets after a populist center-left candidate Alberto Fernandez won the presidential primaries. The main stock market Index closed down nearly 40%. The currency, the Peso fell by 15%.

The U.S national security adviser John Bolton has said United States would enthusiastically support Britain leaving the European union without a deal at the end of October. Speaking after talks with British prime minister Boris Johnson, Mr.Bolton said the two countries could pursue sector-by-sector trade deals after Brexit, rather than waiting for a comprehensive agreement.
